General Birame DIOP, Chair of the ECOWAS Commission for the 2026–2030 term

His international expertise was recognized by his appointment as Military Advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, where he contributed to the development and implementation of policies for conflict prevention, peacekeeping, and the consolidation of international security. For several years, he worked across the continent with the Center for Strategic Studies on Africa (CESA) as a facilitator and lecturer, training senior African civilian and military officials on issues of peace, development, security, and defense.
General DIOP has conducted research on the important issue of security sector reform in sub-Saharan Africa at the National Endowment for Democracy and the Woodrow Center in Washington, D.C.
